Additional Instructions

Goes through the scenic forests of Maredmulli and Rampachodavaram, crosses over the iconic Sir Arthur Cotton Barriage.

The ride starts from Decathlon at Uppal and passes through Hanamkonda which adjoins the District headquarters of Warangal, a historic place which was once the capital of the Kakatiya Dynasty which has a rich heritage. The route passes through the world famous “Thousand Pillar temple” and a left takes you to the “Warangal Mulugu road” which later becomes “Warangal Etunagaram Road”. This road goes through the beautiful Laknavaram forest area which goes on till we reach Etunagaram and cross the mighty Godavari River reaching Jagannadhapuram and a right takes us towards Bhadrachalam: the idea being to reach Bhadrachalam by morning and having breakfast here. After crossing Bhadrachalam, riders will be heading towards Chintur which is just after crossing the Sabari River (that originates from the adjoining states of Chattisgargh and Orrissa). This river is a major tributary of the Godavari and is a major contributor for most of its fresh water.
The road then heads through the most beautiful section of the ride, “Maredumilli & Rampachodavaram forest areas”. A continuous climb of about 15-18 kms greets riders followed by a tree canopy with a lot of twists and turns and is a cyclist’s paradise. This beautiful section ends near Gokavaram and then the riders hit Rajahmundry. Riders are expected to reach Rajahmundry by evening to late evening. For riders who wish to rest may do so while others can continue and cross Godavari at the widest section of the river (3.5kms long). The Dowlaiswaram Barrage (or Godavari Anicut) which also is a connecting road bridge is built at the lower section of the Godavari river before it empties out into the Bay of Bengal. This is one of the biggest irrigation projects in India irrigating millions of hectares of farmland.
“The Godavari anicut is, perhaps, the noblest feat of engineering skill which has yet been accomplished in British India. It is a gigantic barrier thrown across the river from island to island, in order to arrest the unprofitable progress of its waters to the sea, and to spread them over the surface of the country on either side, thus irrigating copiously land which has hitherto been dependent on tanks or on the fitful supply of water from the river. Large tracts of land, which had hitherto been left arid and desolate and waste, were thus reached and fertilized by innumerable streams and channels. - John Henry Morris”
After crossing the Barrage, riders go through Nidadavole and head towards the Chennai-Kolkata highway heading towards Vijayawada. Vijayawada is primarily known for two major attractions. 1. Kanaka Durga Temple and 2. Prakasam Barrage. The initiation for Prakasam Barrage dates back to the late-17th century but never fructified until Sir Arthur Cotton endorsed it and was completed in the mid-18th century.
After Vijayawada, riders will ride all the way back on NH 65 until they reach ORR and head towards Uppal Decathlon thereby completing an epic journey of 1000kms
